The picture shows a 20 year old plant never pruned, demonstrating the compact growth habit. Many other cultivars get very leggy and untidy.

This excellent plant is quite hardy even though it comes from S.Africa. The soft grey foliage make it an admiral addition to the grey garden plants, it resembles a curry plant (Helichrysum italicum) with petty white flowers about 1cm across, but without the awful smell of the curry plant.

This Hebe cultivar was raised by the late Douglas Chalk, founding Chairman of the Hebe Society, in his nursery in the Somerset village of Edington. The parents are Hebe 'Autumn Glory' and Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty'.

Pruning: unlike most Hydrangeas, this one you can cut off at ground level in January and it will regrow and flower the same year. They do however like lots of water.
